CORRUPTION HURTING INDIA'S IMAGE ABROAD:N R NARAYANA MURTHY

At a time when the country is grappling with a spate of scams, Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy has said that corruption issues has taken a toll on India''s goodwill abroad.
"... the goodwill for India that exists a couple of years ago, has gotten diminished now. There is no doubt. It is absolutely clear," Murthy said in response to a question on whether issues of corruption are damaging India''s reputation abroad.
In an interview to television channel NDTV Profit, Murthy, who would step down as Infosys Chairman later this year, said "there is no doubt" that India''s good will has come down globally due to corruption issues.
"... I meet on an average about 30-40 new people every month and and out of that I would say at least about a third have spoken to me on that, in other words about 10-12 people every month," Murthy, a well reputed business leader, said.
Stressing that he was not criticising the country, Murthy said that these are "the facts that I have received from outside people. These are not my words or my perceptions".
Murthy''s comments come at a time when there are rising concerns about corruption issues adversely impacting India''s business environment.
In recent times, a spate of scams, including those related to 2G spectrum allocation and Commonwealth Games, have come to light.
On the handling of the Lokpal issue, Murthy said the Government could have done a better job in dealing with the civil society demands.
"... for the UPA to kind of put themselves in such a situation is sad.
"I personally feel that a party led by somebody of the stature of Sonia Gandhi, or a coalition led by somebody extraordinary like Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee who is another fantastic minister, I personally feel they could have done a much better job in dealing with the demands of the civil society," he noted.
Murthy said that what civil society is asking for is something good for the country. "All that they are saying is that no one should be above the law," he added.

THINGS MEN SHOULD KNOW ABOUT WOMEN: CELEB SPEAK

It has been rightly quoted in James Cameron’s historical movie ‘TITANIC’ that “every woman’s heart is an ocean of secrets.”
So, here we are, revealing some of those secrets (yeah, we know women are complicated and you can’t ever totally claim to know them inside out) so that you can keep your girl happy (at-least to some extent).
These secrets are not from anyone else but leading ladies of Bollywood. Read on as they spill the beans on what amuses and irritates women in general.
# “Women like a chance to speak, even if it is again and again. They take time to come to the point”
Genelia D'Souza

#“It’s not what you say that matters, it’s how you it that counts!”
Sonakshi Sinha

#“No matter what you say or do, unless it’s in your eyes, it’s crap for her”
Kajol

#“An ideal guy is the one who can survive a girl’s talking and moods”
Asin

#“A girl will never ask you to stop doing something more than thrice. If even after that you don’t stop, then…you are on her secret ‘to-be-punished’ list”
Kareena Kapoor

# “FINE is never fine. If she has thrown a ‘fine’ at you, it means you’re in deep s*#@”

NOKIA MAY NEED A LITTLE HELP FROM ITS FRIENDS

Can Nokia stay out of junk-bond territory? Standard & Poor's and Fitch downgraded the Finnish mobile manufacturer this month—the latter to its lowest investment grade, with a negative outlook—amid concerns about its cash position. One way of easing the pressure on its rating might be to seek a helping hand from partner Microsoft.
Sure, Nokia's current €6 billion ($8.6 billion) net cash pile gives it a cushion for this year. But the speed of the collapse in its handset sales and uncertainty over its new Windows-based smartphones, scheduled for launch by year-end, are spooking the ratings agencies. Credit Suisse believes the collapse in sales and margins will result in negative free-cash flow of €500 million in 2011. Along with €1 billion in restructuring charges, that could cut Nokia's net cash to €3.75 billion by 2012.
Nokia says it doesn't target a specific credit rating, but it does seek to maintain access to debt markets at all times. Losing investment-grade status would make that more difficult. A downgrade could force some bondholders without high-yield mandates to sell the debt. It could worry the group's customers and suppliers and would likely inflict further pain on shareholders, already suffering from a 45% share-price fall this year.
Nokia is by no means in a critical position. It has some options. Its stake in Nokia Siemens Networks could be worth as much as $1 billion, although discussions with private-equity bidders have been dragging on for almost a year. Stopping dividend payments could save about €1.5 billion a year. Nokia could cut costs further, although it is already planning €1 billion in savings by 2013.
Another option might be to try tapping cash-rich Microsoft. If the U.S. software group could be coaxed into injecting capital, it wouldn't only ease fears over Nokia's cash position but would also signal confidence in the partnership. Nokia denies a full takeover is being considered, but neither group has ruled out Microsoft taking a minority stake.
Microsoft has a mixed record in hardware, as evidenced by the Zune music player. But Nokia is the software firm's best shot as it tries to stay relevant in the mobile-software battle against heavyweights Apple and Google. If Nokia's cash flow takes another turn for the worse, Microsoft may yet be tempted to put up some money to keep its mobile hopes alive.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MF HUSAIN

Maqbool Fida Husain, the artist who earned fame and controversy over his paintings, died in a London hospital. He was 95. Dubbed the 'Picasso of India', Husain's work is a blend of cubism and classical Indian styles that fetches millions of dollars on international art markets.

His depictions of naked Hindu goddesses enraged zealots who attacked his house, vandalised shows displaying his work and drove him to flee India. For years, galleries were too frightened of protests to display his work.

He first began by hand-painting Bollywood film posters and later joined the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group in the late 1940s after Indian independence from Britain. They tried to create a new art for a new country, combining Indian traditions with modern Western avant-garde styles.

Famous for walking barefoot and carrying a large paintbrush like a riding crop, Husain grew from a struggling commercial painter creating cinema hoardings in the late 1930s to one of India's leading artists.

In 1967, his first film, "Through the Eyes of a Painter", won the Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival. Four years later, he met the Spanish painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso at the Sao Paolo Art Biennial.

He was part of the Progressive Artists Group, a collective that broke tradition to create avant-garde art. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour, in 1989 and nominated to the upper house of parliament in 1986.

By then, Husain was more famous for controversy after a series of paintings from the 1970s depicting revered goddesses in the nude were published in a Hindi-language magazine in 1996. Further controversy came in 2006 over Husain's "Bharatmata" or Mother India, depicting a nude woman posing across a map of the country with the names of various states on her body.

Baba Ramdev’s fast against Corruption from June 4

Baba Ramdev’s fast against Corruption from June 4
Taking the fight against corruption to the next level, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev will go on a fast-unto-death against graft from June 4. He says 10 crore Indians will join him. In a letter to the PM, Ramdev has asked the government to get the black money back, punish the tainted and make strict anti-graft laws.

"Black money worth Rs 400 lakh crore is lying in several international banks. The government should make concentrated efforts to get the black money, which is a national property, back. This money can be used for the development of our country," said Ramdev.

Ramdev's campaign is being compared to Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption campaign, but the yoga guru says that his campaign is about improving the system to ensure that there is no corruption in the country. "We all are fighting against corruption. We are taking the fight to the next level. We are focusing on changing the system. I have a 20-point demand and till the time all our demands are met, I'll not break my fast," said Ramdev.

Ramdev claims that close to 1.5 lakh people will be joining him on June 4 in Delhi and close to one crore people in different parts of the country.

The saint community has come forward in support of yoga guru Baba Ramdev and has decided to be at his side in his fight against corruption. Baba Ramdev has declared to start an indefinite fast on the issue of corruption in New Delhi in June 4.

Problems elaborated by Baba Ramdev:-
1. National security – Neighboring countries are conspiring against us, our borders are not even sealed properly leave alone safety. Internal security is in the worst possible condition – Naxalites and Maoists are eating up the nation from inside. Apart from this the government is a big time failure unable to control these problems and pointing fingers towards Saints and Sanyaasis with terms like ‘Bhagua Aatankwaad’ – ‘Saffron terrorists’.

2. Infrastructure – Our country lacks proper infrastructure in cities, towns, villages. Roads are in such conditions that 40% backache problems in the population is caused by them. Little rain causes streets to flood, there is no proper drainage system to control water. This is a big hurdle in the development. Roads, railways, etc are in pathetic condition hampering the growth of business and commerce.

3. Education – The education system is completely useless which focuses on education in English instead of local languages and is of such high price that only the elite have access to it. Government schools are in rotten condition. Politicians don’t have the guts to get their children educated from Government schools who instead are studying in universities abroad or hi-class colleges/schools here. NGO reports say that quality of education in towns and villages is way poor than normal standards. There is a huge shortage of proper teachers and professors for universities and colleges and the burden is ever increasing with zero or negative results.

4. Governance – Political leaders have become deaf, dumb and blind who do not have guts to stand against the wrong and are hugely money-oriented. Rampant corruption is present in the political parties and no one is least cared about the development of the nation. Leaders speak of a slum free India where 50 crore people live in slums. 200 lakh crores of money is stashed away in Swiss banks and other tax havens abroad which is not being utilized for the development of the nation and which is our money. The politicians of all groups are silent because this is the money they have taken out hence are not interested in getting it back.

5. Healthcare  50%+ death due to malnutrition in the world take place in our country. More than 50 crore people live in slums and more than 80 crore people do not have access to clean drinking water. When the government is unable to provide the basic needs of live to the majority of our country how can it cater to the needs of the 2.38 crores of people being added to the population every year ?

6. Poverty  80 crore+ people live on a daily income of Rs.20 or less. And the government is not putting a curb on any foreign company selling zero-technology product which can be easily produced by local people with better quality and cheaper price because of low transport and advertisement which would provide employment and food to crores of people. Instead the educated literates can only make big speeches of achieving a slum free India.

7. Ever increasing population – Every year our population is increasing by 2.38 crores. The government is unable to provide the basics to the existing population, with the shortage of infrastructure and ever increasing demand then near future isn’t bright  for us, if no strong action is taken immediately.
It’s high time that we stand up with national pride and fight against corruption and national & social issues of country to make a better and brighter future.

Baba Ramdev backs Khap Panchayats' demand
Backing the Khap Panchayats' demand for a ban on marriages in same sub-caste, yoga guru Ramdev asked the caste councils, who are seeking amendments to the Hindu Marriage Act, to take up the issue in a non-violent manner and within the purview of Constitution.
Ramdev claimed that it had been scientifically proved that marrying in blood relations or in the same 'Gotra' increases the health risk for offspring.
"I have nothing to say except what is accepted by society and has a scientific base-- that marriages should not take place among people who have blood relations or are of the same Gotra."

Digvijay against Baba Ramdev

Ramdev should drop plans to go on hunger strike: Digvijay
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh took a jibe at Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev saying that he should abandon his plan to go on a hunger- strike against corruption before it causes him embarrassment.

"Many people turned up to persuade Anna Hazare to give up his fast but it is possible that no one might come to the aid of Ramdev. It will be better if he doesn't observe the fast."
There was huge mass support for Hazare's agitation but it will not be the same for Ramdev, he said.
